Casper Labs will create blockchain-based solution with IBM consultancy to help improve transparency and auditability of generative AI systems

New solution designed to help companies looking to better manage training data for generative AI systems in organizations

NEW YORK AND ARMONK, NY, January 11, 2024 – Casper Labs, the provider of enterprise blockchain software and services, and IBM (NYSE: IBM) Consulting announced today that it will work to help clients leverage blockchain to achieve greater transparency and auditability in their AI systems. Together, Casper Labs and IBM Consulting plan to develop a new Casper Labs solution, designed with blockchain and integrated leverage IBM watsonx.governancewhich establishes an additional level of analysis and policy enforcement to govern AI training data in organizations.

The process of training, developing, and deploying generative AI models occurs across multiple organizations, from the creator of the original model to the end-user organization. As different organizations integrate new datasets or modify models, their results change accordingly, and many organizations must be able to monitor and control these changes, as well as accurately diagnose and resolve problems. Blockchain can help organizations share their trusted contextual information via metadata in the ledger, documenting that patterns have changed, while mitigating the risk of intellectual property crossover or unnecessary data sharing across organizational lines.

Casper Labs’ solution is expected to be based on Casper, a highly serialized and tamper-resistant ledger, and leverage IBM watsonx.governance AND watsonx.ai to monitor and measure highly serialized input and output data for training generative AI systems in organizations. Thanks to the hybrid nature and authorization system of Casper Blockchain, organizations can expect to be able to better protect sensitive data stored in the solution from access by external actors; they have control over who can access what data. The solution will also be built to support version control using blockchain serialization capabilities, so that organizations can efficiently restore previous iterations of an AI system if performance issues or skewed results occur.

IBM Consulting’s governance and AI technology experts will assist Casper Labs in building the solution, which Casper Labs expects will be available to customers in beta in Q1 2024 and then available more broadly across their channels and IBM Cloud Marketplace .

The new solution is designed to help companies across all industries, including financial services, healthcare and retail, deploy AI responsibly and at scale across their ecosystem of technology and service providers. Among other features, the solution aims to offer:

• Compliance Panel: A centralized dashboard for monitoring and managing AI systems applied to organizations to support compliance processes with an organization’s ethical guidelines.
• Quality Control Toolkit: Tools to monitor the quality and performance of AI systems, along with an interface to improve the transparency and explainability of AI results.
• Version Control: The ability to correct performance or other problems by “rolling back” to previous iterations of a given AI system that had no problems.
• Audit and reporting system: A system for controlling AI processes and generating detailed reports based on context metadata captured from the Casper Labs registry.
