The crypto app revolution on social media and messaging platforms will finally change the narrative on cryptocurrency adoption. Not all blockchain teams should be happy about this, warns veteran investor and researcher Chris Burniske.
Crypto app adoption will skyrocket next year, says Chris Burniske
In 2025, crypto apps will be integrated by tens to hundreds of millions of new users, just like OpenAI’s ChatGPT bot is doing right now. That prediction was shared by Chris Burniske, partner at Placeholder and former head of the crypto unit at ARK Invest in X (formerly Twitter).
The long-awaited massive adoption will bring a new generation of users en masse, and much faster than in previous periods. Cryptocurrencies are expected to take advantage of their unfair advantage, i.e. their status as a unique financialized infrastructure, directly intertwined with the social media phenomenon, expert says.
The influx of users will be so gigantic that the crypto sphere will shift from “Where is the adoption?” to the “Too Much Adoption” stage in just a few months, with developers “running around with their hair on fire.”
This radical change will amplify scalability issues with L1 and L2 blockchains; few modern blockchain environments are ready to properly manage the potential user flow.
Therefore, the experienced expert recommends everyone to prepare for surprises.
As previously explained by U.Today, Chris Burniske shared his opinion on the euphoria of celebrity coins on the Solana (SOL) blockchain.
Chain abstraction to help?
The synergy between social networks and crypto apps has already fueled the growth of new Web3 products, added Illia Polosukhin, founder of NEAR, commenting on Burniske’s predictions.
He recalled the success story of the decentralized validator network based on NEAR, which reached the milestone of two million daily users in 10 days thanks to its integration with Telegram.
Technically, such moves become possible thanks to the concept of chain abstraction, the NEAR founder said. As previously explained by U.Today, NEAR has been collaborating with Polygon Labs in this field since mid-January 2024.
